BOD Meeting Minutes - June 13, 2023
The Arts Based School Board of Directors Meeting was held at the Arts Based School South campus on June 13, 2023
Meeting called to order 5:45
Board Members Elizabeth Repetti, Chanita Coulter, Asher Ellis, Joy Blaser, Ellen Heck, Jay Kumar, Shannon Meares, Michelle Lawrence, Kyle Barnes, Tonya Monteiro, Tomisha Gladman, Larry Barron
ABS Staff: Charter Director Robin Hillis, Principal Paige Raper, Principal Sherell McArthur
The meeting materials (Agenda, May Meeting Minutes) were distributed to the Board by email on June 7, 2023. Additional meeting materials (May Budget Report and Charter School Director’s Report) were distributed to the Board by email on June 12, 2023..
Shannon Meares moved to approve May ABS Board of Directors meeting minutes. Michele Lawrence seconded the motion. Minutes approved were approved without opposition.
May Financials – presented by Asher Ellis. $500,000 due by end of June from Forsyth County. Balance in checking account sufficient to pay ABS’ current obligations. There is a $3,000 short fall from upfit of South Campus, however this shortfall was anticipated. There are three (3) grants that we are expecting to receive reimbursement from. One of these three grants would be the NC Access Grant.
Asher Ellis moved to approve the May Financial Report. Motion passed and the May Financial Report was approved.
2023-2024 proposed Budget– Annual budget increased to from 5.8 million to $6.3 million. Covid grants are no longer available.
Budget proposal: Recommending 7% increase in wages. This increase includes funds to include increased costs for benefits. 55% of the budgeted line item goes to salary and wage and 25% to benefits.
Robin Hollis has not received salary increase since 10/2015. She has declined an increase salary at this time.
Floor opened for comments from family and community members in attendance. Most of the comments were in support in support of ABS employing a school nurse. ABS school nurse was funded through a Covid Grant that ends at the end of the 2022-2023 school year.
Michelle Lawrence moved to approve the 2023 -2024 budget as presented and review other means to secure funding for a school nurse. Motion seconded by Shannon Meares. Budget passed without opposition.
Shannon Meares moved to adjourn. Motion passed without opposition. Meeting adjourned at 7:19
