The Arts Based School Board of Directors met at ABS North on 7th Street. The meeting was
called to order at 5:51 pm.

Curriculum Director Liz Green, Principal ABS South Sherell McArthur, and Parent Council

Meeting materials: The agenda, Director’s Report, February Meeting Minutes, draft of SB49
Parents Rights Policy, and board application of T. Douglas were distributed to the Board by
email on March 8 and March 12.

Tomisha Gladman motioned to approve February minutes with changes of the addition of
Chanita Coulter and correction to date. The motion was seconded by Ellen Coble. Motion
carried.

Financial Report (Asher Ellis)
● First Citizens Bank has offered a rate of 4.25% for a money market account for ABS idle
funds. Recommendation made to open the money market account.
○ Tomisha motioned to approve and Ellen Coble seconded and the motion carried
(Asher Ellis abstained from voting.)

Director’s Report (Robin Hollis)
● Proposed calendar submitted with start date and vacations generally aligned with
WSFCS.
○ Motion to approve by E. Coble, and seconded by T. Monteiro. Motion carried.
● In February, ABS conducted an online parent satisfaction survey and 105 families
responded. The results will be shared via Thursday Notes.
○ 89% of survey takers agree or strongly agree with the statement “Overall, I am
satisfied with the education of mychild(ren) at ABS.”

● Water Testing Results Results reported to ABS on March 7, 2024
○ The Clean Classrooms for Carolina KidsTM team received 29 sampled taps at
ABS. No lead was detected in the facility's drinking and cooking water samples.
No mitigation activities are required.

● Federal grants are due in June. ABS receives funding for Title I, Title II, and IDEA.
Board approval is required to authorize Director Hollis to submit these grants on the
school’s behalf.
○ A. Ellis proposed a motion to authorize the director to apply for grants and
motion was seconded by T. Gladman. Motion carried.

● Parents continue to discuss lice policy and have asked for revisions be drafted and
submitted later for board approval.
