Mrs. Howard's Classroom

I feel blessed to be a part of the ABS community, finally "living the dream" as an elementary educator.  When I was a young girl, loved ones often found me strolling around the living room in my mom's high heels and worn out eye glasses, reading to a couch full of stuffed animals and baby dolls.  I had my heart set on being a teacher.  For one reason and another, I followed a different path that led to a degree in merchandise management and a career in fashion design.  Although I loved the travel and excitement of the fashion industry, teaching continued to pull on my heart strings.  After 10 years in the corporate world, I embarked on a new adventure and enrolled in the MAT program at Salem College.  I completed my Masters Degree in May, 2015.
This is my 8th year teaching 1st grade at the Arts Based School.  I am especially interested in building partnerships with the families I serve, and I am dedicated to fostering independence and confidence in the children I teach.  I strive to provide a calm, yet playful learning environment, where children socialize, collaborate, investigate, explore and discover as they learn about the world around them.  In my classroom, we honor diversity and celebrate the unique perspectives we each bring to this circle of friends.
